We're Moving
The voters of Rogers County approved continuation of a sales tax for construction of a new courthouse. The site chosen by the steering committee puts the front entrance to the new building smack on top of the offices of Scarth & Rahmeier. For a short time we joked that we would have space under the stairs, ala Harry Potter. Alas, that will not be the case. So we found a new place to build a new office.
It will not be as close to the courthouse: right now our front door is about 80 feet from the front door of the courthouse. Our new site will require that we drive, except on an especially good day. Of course, we'll have to find a place to park, too. In all, we'll have to change the way we think about going to the courthouse. But other attorneys have been doing that for years, so I suppose we'll cope.
The new facility
We'll end up with new building--a bit larger than we have now, with space for more storage.

The floorplan is here, as a pdf file (new window will open).
Location is the southeast corner of Patti Page Blvd. and Florence Avenue, in Claremore. Address is 210 South Florence Avenue. (That is newly assigned by whatever office does that; it will show up in google maps or mapquest as 203 E Patti Page. Here's what it looked like a year or two ago, long before we purchased--the folks we bought the land from had cleared the houses and trees, and rezoned for offices, to match the Doctor's office on the east or left of that picture.)
We started and ground was "broken" on April 3, 2010. The early (April 3-15) Gallery here shows the progress by date (new window will open). The weather has been great so far and it's moving along nicely. Rain came in over the weekend of April 16, but it cleared by Monday, so no days have been lost to weather.
We're hoping to be done by the time the County wants us out--the end of July, or sooner, but that's still subject to discussion.
Enjoy!

Group from the first two months, April to May has its own page now: Click HERE for April and May. I hope this will cut down the time to load this page....
Not much visible progress over the Holiday Weekend, but they are preparing to finish the exterior walls this week; scaffolding is part way up....
The dry-wall guy is putting texture on interior walls, too...
Outside wall work--stucco/Drivit should go on Friday, 6/4:
Interior work on grid for accoustical tiles; electrician will start setting light fixtures inside today. Excitement building for completion.
Continuing work on the exterior--should have the final color early next week (6/7/10):
Still waiting for the front door, too. It reportedly shipped last week, but whether that means it is actually out of the plant we don't know. The door sellers are notorious for not knowing much, or not telling us much. The door must be installed before the final drivit layer is installed. We'll see how it goes.
Exterior progress on 6/5/10:
The exterior walls have their final color (except for near the front door, of course):
Delayed a bit by weather Monday, shown in these clouds. Rained much of the morning and wind shifted several times, but only .75" of rain.
Interior doors are being put up. Lights soon. They'll probably press to get the A/C hooked up soon. Summer has arrived!
Wednesday morning (6/9), and the scaffolding is down--looks better without it:
Interior progress as of 6/10:
more interior progress:
More interior work: the work space in the mail room is below, followed by the vanity in the staff toilet area.
Getting ready for the parking lot work, so some exterior progress yesterday (6/16/10):
Panorama of the neighborhood. The usual pans are from the sidewalk near where the SUV is parked. This is taken from near the end of the fence which appears in the other panoramas.
The employee parking lot was poured Thursday (6/17):
Today, Saturday, June 19, is a work day: parking lot being poured before the 100 degree heat arrives later in the day.
Half the parking lot is done today, June 20. More on Monday, we assume.
Bookcases in the conference room:
Paint crew is due in this week (6/21), so expect big interior changes when I next get inside.
Concrete work is almost done, landscaping soon:
Stain has been put on the wood-work:
Concrete work finished on parking lot and driveway! Looks like we could play basketball or tennis--hope the local skateboarders don't have other plans.
More staining on woodwork inside--this is the receptionist station:
Interior progress on Wednesday--masking woodwork for wall paint:
Paint fumes have been heavy, so I have stayed away a few days. They are making progress:
Painters are wrapping up, and the tile crew is in:
Tile Work continues:
The electrician has been busy, too:
More tile work; it should be done early next week!
The receptionist station will get its countertop on Tuesday, the 6th.
Happy Fourth of July!
Everyone took much of the weekend off; they should be rested for the big push to finish now.
The counter and sink for the staff restroom went in Tuesday:
I opted for carpet in my office, and here it is:
Exterior detail--faux shutters.
It's getting closer to finished: we started moving some books...
The outside still about the same:
Interior door to lobby is in, and the painters are back to finish it, and some touch-ups.
Plumbers are done, we have running water!
The painters have finished for now (until the door arrives) and even cleaned up after themselves:
Exterior views of the latest are shown. Our landscaper is on vacation, and the irrigation company won't be here until next week either, but the dumpster is gone, signaling that the junk-producing interior work is complete:
We started moving furniture on the 17th.
And more books....
Landscapers showed up to begin prep work, and the division fence with the Doctor next door came down Wednesday. Bright new signs for the handicap parking spaces, too.
Breakroom is nearly complete....
Names went up on the entry way Friday. And, we continue to move stuff in...
A tree is planted...
THE DOOR has arrived--frame just unloaded in this view....
More landscaping if you look closely, behind the equipment...
and...
drum roll...
TA DA!
THE DOOR:
Exterior finish and finish up will be next week. Looks like we're going to make it! (The reflection is the building across the street.)
The plantings are in; the irrigation almost done. The sod truck comes next week along with the finish of the front entry wall. Getting closer every day
WE MADE IT. BUILDING IS 99.9% COMPLETE, and we've moved in. It's been a crazy week of shuffling, packing, and moving boxes. Everything is here; we may not find it for a day or two however.
The sod and plantings look great. We're watering regularly to help them make it through the heat wave. So far, it looks like most of them will.
The Panorama:
From the other corner of the lot:
The lobby, with most of the decorating finished:
Another view of the front, showing the plantings a bit better. Please don't ask me what they all are....
The Count-down: 1 day left until the County wants us out of our old building. We opened at the new place on August 9, and have mostly finished cleaning out the old place to turn over the keys to the County on the 10th. Whew!
